Becoming Carbon Net Zero by 2030

Our mission is to create an environmentally sustainable future for the children that attend our nurseries and would like to commit to becoming Carbon Net Zero by 2030 - 20 years earlier than the government target. This means that across our nurseries we will add no more carbon than we remove.

We are currently committed to taking action in 5 areas:

  • Carbon Tracking - establishing effective environmental measurement and accounting systems.
  • Engaging our parents, local community and children in our environmental projects and launching fundraising efforts.
  • Reducing our water and energy consumption.
  • Generating our own renewable energy onsite.
  • Reducing our use of single use goods, such as plastic and paper.

Carbon Tracking

In order to fully understand our environmental impact we need to benchmark our carbon outputs today. Over the next six months we will endeavour to measure our use of single use plastics, energy consumption, transportation and waste across both sites. We will use this to measure how we perform moving forward and identify areas in which we can make changes both in the short and long term.

What are we doing right now?

Even without a complete set of Carbon accounts we can being to make changes and throughout 2023 we are going to be running some smaller projects to help make positive change.

For example, did you know that if each child at nursery, has a change of clothes every day that is placed into a single use plastic nappy sack we would use approximately 33,772 bags a year.

Therefore, for Christmas 2022, we are going to provide each child with two washable, reusable bags, that can be placed inside their nursery bag for dirty clothes to be placed inside. From January 2023 our teams will not use single use nappy sacks to put dirty clothes in and will request that parents and carers provide our washable bags to put the dirty clothes in instead.

We need you!

We would love your support with our mission and there are plenty of ways to get involved. From spreading the word and getting support for our projects within the local community, fundraising efforts, fundraising matching (lots of organisations will match values that we raise) and helping with delivery of some of our projects. Please email us to let us know how you might like to be involved.

To start helping us right now, please sign up to our Easy Fundraising page, a free fundraising platform, which will send us money, when you purchase items from relevant retailers online. http://efraising.org/NGQTx0PkLG

If every parents helped us raise just £5 through Easy Fundraising we would have enough to fund our first project and and a start on our second project looking at renewable energy.

Together we can reduce carbon emissions and help meet the needs of our children today without compromising the needs of future generations.
